It's NEVER too late to join the club, so come join and become part of the PDS family! We've been staying flossy since '07.
The Benefits from PDS at UCSC
General Body Meetings- GBM's are biweekly (every 2 weeks) each quarter. During meetings we have guest speakers from dental schools or past alumni's that speak to us. We go over how to study for the DAT, Dental School Applications, Academic Requirements and other topics that are helpful for pre-dents.
Workshops- Our Workshops consist of DAT (Kaplan), Dental Applications, Interviews, Manual Dexterity Activities and many more that will improve your knowledge about dentistry.
Shadowing Program- We offer shadowing opportunities on campus with Onsite Dental and off- campus as well.
Volunteering- Volunteering is a great aspect for the dental application so we offer volunteering events such as the Homeless Garden Project, CDA Cares, UCSC CaRE Homeless Clinics, etc. We also reference students to UCSC's Club Vida. PDS at UCSC also partnered with America's Tooth Fairy which is a National Children's Oral Health Foundation.
Peer Advising- Need help with your 4- year plan? Have no fear, we have a board member called a Peer Adviser who can help you with academics and specific dental schools around the nation requirements. To get into contact with the Peer Adviser, go to the CONTACT US tab and select ADVISING APPOINTMENT.
Dental School Trips- PDS at UCSC is very serious when it comes to getting information about schools to the members. Hearing from the professors or coordinators from the dental school will help gain understanding of the dental field and the academic prerequisites. We visit the dental schools near UCSC such as UCSF and University of the Pacific.
Social Events- Socials are a great way to get to know everyone in the club, study buddies and especially gain a family. Meeting peers that have similar goals will expand reliable connections in present and in the future.
Member of the Month/Year- Being Member of the Month shows how dedicated you are in the club and is an excellent award to mention on your application.
Leadership- This opportunity is given by becoming part of the PDS Board for each academic year and in any group activities.
Improve DAT Scores- We offer test prep advice, recommendations on studying and DAT sources, what to expect on test day, and discounts on materials.
PDS Annual Alumni Panel-Speaking to UCSC Alumni's in this panel is a phenomenal experience where you see old faces or new faces that have experienced what you are going through and getting advice from them. Usually held during Spring Quarter and is a great way to reach out for help on the schools they are attending or have attended. A big bonus is the founders of PDS at UCSC visit and listening on how they built this club is beautiful.
